To maintain the prestige of the HoF, the induction process is rigorous and transparent.
A. The Nomination Process
1. Public/Peer Nomination: Candidates must be nominated by their peers, professional bodies (like teachers’ unions), or the communities they serve.
2. Evidence Portfolio: Every nomination must be accompanied by a portfolio showing measurable impact (e.g., student results, school growth data, or published research found in the RC).
B. Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum Service: Nominees for the Professional Excellence categories must have a minimum of 15 years of active service in the education sector.
- RC Engagement: For modern categories, evidence of continuous professional development (utilizing the Resource Centre) is an added advantage.
- Vetting: A 7-member “Jury of Fellows” (consisting of past inductees and university professors) will verify all claims.
Nomination Requirements:
All nominees, in order to be considered for induction into the GEHoF, MUST adhere to the following guidelines, deadlines, and other requirements. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of the nomination.
Nomination must be within the specified category
The professional nominee must be a certified private or public teacher or researcher
The nominee may be active or retired or dead. For teachers, the nominee must have a minimum of NCE If selected for induction, the nominee must attend induction activities as required. All nominations must be submitted on the official nomination form which may be obtained by downloading it here
The nomination form may also be completed online, although letters of recommendation uploaded while the hard copy should be mailed to the GEHoF office by the deadline.
The completed nomination form must reach the GEHoF office NOT LATER than the deadline set.
A. The person making the nomination should work closely with the nominee to ensure that all required materials are included in the packet and that the deadline is met. Self- nominations are accepted
B. Each year the public announcement of the inductees will be made on National Teachers Day, the website and the media. All other nominees will be sent written notification of their nomination status on or after that date.
C. Nomination Packet
One copy of the nomination packet is required. It must be filled out completely with all requirements, essays, and letters. Other details are provided in the nomination forms and instructions.
